Prepare for the Surgery
- Prophylactic antibiotics are generally not required prior to circumcisions using disposable plastic devices
- Thoroughly clean the foreskin using antiseptic solution
- Apply topical anaesthetics cream provided at time of booking
- Leave the anaesthetics cream for a minimal of 30 minutes
- Local anaesthetics or anaesthetics block will be given by Dr Wong before the procedure
After the Surgery
- A light dressing is applied below the glans penis after the procedure.
It is normal have swelling after circumcision procedure. - The post operative swelling takes a few weeks to fully resolve.
- Dr Wong advises a period of bed rest to allow swelling to resolve.
- Please follow the post operative wound care instructions provided to you after your surgery.
- For infants and newborns, no specific dressing is required after Plastibell circumcision (or Circumplast circumcision), the plastic device will eventually fall off after an average of 7-8 days
- You will be given follow up appointment at 1 to 2 weeks. In general full recovery after circumcision may take a few weeks. But most patients can resume duties if their occupation is sedentary such as desk / computer tasks.
- For school age boys, we advise parents to come for consultation early and plan the surgery at the start of school holidays.
